Description
Skin ageing stems from unavoidable biological mechanisms, amplified by environment and lifestyle. Oxidative stress, usually seen only as damage, can also trigger adaptive responses that strengthen cellular defences; under repeated aggression, however, these mechanisms run out of steam.
Aethelis Granata is the first active of Naolys’ ExoCell® platform: it uses exosomes — the vesicles cells use to exchange signals — obtained from pomegranate cells grown in the lab, to reactivate the skin’s cellular language and support its regeneration.
The pomegranate is a symbol of resilience: thanks to its deep roots and drought tolerance it withstands extreme conditions, building up protective compounds such as polyphenols and tannins. The name combines the Latin Aethel (noble) and Elis (elixir).
How it works
Pomegranate exosomes activate the adaptive responses of skin cells by specifically modulating SUMOylation, a protein modification involved in epigenetic regulation.
In keratinocytes, SUMOylation triggers a cascade of adaptations: chromatin organisation, DNA repair mechanisms and mitochondrial function. The result is better communication between cells and the regeneration of the skin’s biological processes.
By stimulating keratinocyte defence pathways, the action extends to the dermis, activating fibroblasts and macromolecule synthesis.
