Berberine is a fine yellow-orange powder derived from an alkaloid localized in the bark, leaves, twigs, rhizomes, roots and/or stems of various plants, such as Oregon grapes and tree turmeric.
It has traditionally been used as an antimicrobial and antiprotozoal agent in Ayurvedic medicine and traditional Chinese medicine.
