Beeswax

Category:

A wonder bees product, in addition to honey and propolis, beeswax is used by bees to build the inner structures of  their hive (honeycomb), where afterwards honey is stored.

Egyptians already used beeswax for mummification and ship-building. Later on, old Romans made use of it in order to protect paintings against water and damp.

Use of Beeswax

In cosmetics, beeswax is used because of its water-repellent and skin protective properties, its emollient action and capability to form very stable emulsions, as well as thickening features (so that the cosmetic preparations can be more stable).

Even in the food industry, beeswax is used either for cheese coating or as a food additive (under the designation E901) as a polishing agent.

In the pharmacological sector, beeswax is employed on the basis of its analgesic, anti-inflammatory ed expectorant properties.

As for the craft industry, beeswax is also used for: candles and soaps, polishing products for furniture and shoes, poll tables, whiskers wax.

Nowadays, the main destinations of use of beeswax are assessed as follows:

  • cosmetics 25-30%,
  • pharmacy 25-30%,
  • candles 20%,
  • others 10-20%.

In addition, the great majority of beeswax is ricycled and reused as wax foundation sheets.
